Interesting Alligator Facts













·         Alligator closely resembles to Crocodiles. Alligators are of two types. The American Alligator and Chinese Alligator. Hence they are native to either US or China.

·         The word Alligator has been derived from the Spanish term el lagarto which means lizard.

·         Alligators belong to phylum chordate.

·         Alligators age is about 30 to 50 years.

·         Normal American Alligators can weight upto 450 Kgs and grow upto 14.5 feet long.

·         Alligators have about 75 teeth.

·         Chinese Alligators are one of the endangered species and only dozens are believed to exist.

·         Chinese Alligators are found in Yangtze river Valley.

·         Alligators eat large fish, turtles, some mammals like nutria and muskrat etc.

·         Alligators mating season is generally late spring.

·         Female Alligators build the nest for hatching.

·         Female Alligators tend to lay 40 to 50 eggs on average.

·         While Alligator species are Albino and Leucistic Alligators which are very very rare.
